Always Ready

Husband and I are watching an installment of American Idol when an ad for the next show comes on the air. A commercial advertising the next episode of House. We look at each other and know exactly what our plan is for the next seven minutes: put our shoes on and bolt out the door for some Oreos and real milk (not that vanilla stuff extracted from a bean, as husband lovingly calls the soy milk I buy).

As I grab the door knob, I hear what I suspect is a sound of an electric shaver. Puzzled and quite annoyed, I suggest that, perhaps, shaving and putting gel in his hair is really unnecessary, since this is going to be a five-minute trip to a grocery store across the street. Besides, we are going to miss the show, if we take any more time. Husband’s response? “What if that guy is shopping there tonight and he wants to put me in his movie?” Oh, I wasn’t aware Spielberg moved to our neck of the woods and is now shopping at our local Tom Thumb. My bad.
