Another CAT Scan

My CAT scan went well this afternoon. I have never had this particular test done with a contrast IV, so that was an experience and-a-half. The male nurse that assisted me was excellent with my veins. Usually I walk away looking like I’ve been shooting cocaine up my arms for years, but not this time. There are no bruises around the little pink mark left by the needle. I am very impressed. And thankful.
The test itself took about 20 minutes once the IV was hooked up. Attending nurse warned about the way this IV contrast might feel—a burning, warm sensation in the throat and an urge to urinate. Hmmm. That last one sounded very odd. In fact, I had trouble imagining how an iodinated dye could do that.
The whole 20 minutes I kept waiting for the burning sensation but it only came at the very end. And burning it was. Although I have never experienced spontaneous combustion, I imagine it might feel very similar to the effects of an IV contrast dye. I felt like my insides were engulfed in flames, first my throat, then the wrists, and, finally, other parts of my body. I had trouble breathing.
After the exam I was instructed to drink lots of water in the next few days to help this iodinated dye cycle through and out. I feel fine now, aside from a sudden onset of thirst that feels like all moisture has suddenly and completely evaporated from every cell in my body.
Husband and I go back to see Dr. Samson on February 5th. I will report on that meeting as soon as I am able.

Olga,
I have been reading your blog and keeping you in my prayers. I had to smile at your description of your latest ct scan. I have had many of these contrast iv cts myself and it’s a very strange feeling. I pray that you get a good report!

So glad to get the updates, Olga. You are in my prayers. I am looking forward to seeing your parents this week at the Mt. Bethel Missions Conference.
