Cravings

It’s amazing how my food preferences have changed over the past five months. In the first 14 weeks, I wanted nothing to do with food. It was my worst enemy. All I could keep down was baked potatoes and turkey sandwiches. I couldn’t really drink regular water, so Fresca and carbonated water were my best bets. Occasionally I would go crazy for a bacon burger or a beet salad, but that’s about it.
Then, as the nausea eased up, my food choices widened. I still occasionally go crazy for bacon burgers, but lately I’ve been after strawberries, blueberries, and cantaloupe. Breads, pasta, and red meats are also on the menu (along with eggs and cheese, yum). I’m not a big red meat eater, so it’s very unusual for me to crave steak, it’s kind of funny, actually. On a couple of occasions I felt like flying a ‘’STEAK or BUST!’’ flag, it got that bad.
Although I am able to eat pretty much anything I want at this point and I can even drink water (imagine that!), one thing is still off the menu—sweets. I cannot stand the smell of chocolate and I have not touched ice cream pretty much since I got pregnant. It sounds odd, I know, but I just can’t even think about sugary goodness. I think our baby boy is all daddy because daddy doesn’t like sweets that much. Perhaps third trimester will cure this, we’ll see.

I craved chips and salsa from a local Mexican restaurant for about a month and it was all I could keep down too so it was pretty much all I ate. It didn’t help my heartburn what so ever but I had to have it. It is so weird. Hey swearing off sugar is good for the weight and the gestational diabetes test.
