Finally Weekend

This week has stretched for years, it seems. It wasn’t so much one particular thing; it was a sudden accumulation of several grown-up, adult life tasks that had to be addressed, managed, and resolved, so, we had very little sleep all week (although that was, in part, courtesy of severe Texas weather).
First I had to drop off my car for repairs. A huge hail storm came through our neighborhood in February, but I’ve been putting off repairs until I could be somewhat certain we weren’t going to have any more hail. That, and waiting on the insurance to process our claim.
I finally gave up and gave in because we do live in Texas where, I am learning, the weather is quite unpredictable and it could hail anytime. So, off to the car shop I went. Incidentally, it just so happened that we had tornado, flash floods, hail, and overall severe weather warnings all week.
I purchased additional insurance on the rental and prayed for the best as storms raged every night for four nights straight. Thankfully, all we got was rain, high winds, lightening, and lots of thunder. So, my little PT Cruiser was fine.
By the way, this car felt so girly. Everything from the old-fashioned analogue clock on the dashboard to the speedometer that marked speed in 20 mph increments to the slim shape of the steering wheel felt absolutely mademoiselle-ish. It seemed like manicures, facials and lunch at la Madeleine’s came as a pre-requisites to driving it. Kind of like Netflix or Amazon—customers who enjoyed this product also ordered this one.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying a man shouldn’t like or own this car. I am just saying this was my first impression. And, if you are a man who works construction in North Dakota or commercially fishes in Alaska and you happen to love your PT Cruiser, well, my bad—you have totally proven me wrong on this one.
Next on the list was meeting with a roofing company to discuss roof replacement. In addition to denting my car, the aforementioned hail storm also killed our roof. So, we should be getting a new one in a couple of weeks. I’m just thankful we didn’t have a lot more damage on the property and, after this week’s nasty tornado touch down in cities all around us, I am thankful for this very minimal damage. Texas weather makes me feel quite nervous.
I also had to deal with the city trash pick-up crew—apparently they were not happy with my rental car being parked where it was. It was odd and unexpected because I’ve parked my car in the exact same spot for the past nine months and never got any complaints, let alone notes on the windshield.
This time, however, I did get a note asking to park my car elsewhere because neighbors across the street didn’t get no trash service because of big, bad, ol’ me. I won’t be making this mistake again. No siree. I’ll be tucking that car so far away from now on that I myself might forget where I parked it. I just really don’t want to be known as ‘the woman who blocks the dump truck’ because that title right there doesn’t smell right to me.
Today I’m totally ready for some quiet R&R, maybe some cobbler, cinnamon rolls, or even home-made chicken soup. I have to relish the quiet before another storm.

Hi Olga, I am a patient of dr. samsons. I found your website through Sarita. She is a patient also. She is having surgery on Thursday and I met with her last night. She was telling me about you – we are about the same age. She thought it would be good for us to be in contact with each other. I am in the dfw area and would love to speak with you about your situation and share my story with you. It is always wonderful to speak to dr. samsons patients. He was my miracle worker..I think the world of him. I have been in contact with several of his patients and it is always amazing to meet people who share this similar condition. Please email me at rachel_hart10@yahoo.com. I definitely look forward to speaking with you!
