Half-Birthday
Today Hudson turned six months. I am not even going to mention how strange that feels. Once again, where has the time gone? Last month was filled with events that required patience and adjustment. My mom left after taking care of Hudson for four months. She left on a Monday and he cried for the rest of the week. I think he missed having her around. We still do.
Another big event was our trip to Boston. We discovered Hudson LOVES to travel and meet new people. He could not have been a better traveler if he tried. He was so absolutely perfect on this trip, we are planning two or three more for this year. Meanwhile, we are working on getting him out of the house as much as possible so he can discover new places and meet lots of new people (it’s no airplane ride, but it’s the best mama can do for now).
He has also continued to teethe, which, don’t even get me started on that little fact of life. From what we can tell, his top four teeth are about to emerge and then there are two more on the bottom (that makes a total of eight in two months because he already cut two; I’ll keep you posted on how that works out). I am not sure how that’s possible. That’s A LOT of teeth at once.
Another big change this month — introducing vegetables and fruit. So far, this mission has been a huge fail. He doesn’t like green beans. He doesn’t like squash. He hates bananas. That’s right, I said BANANAS. Who doesn’t like bananas? I am puzzled, frustrated, and alarmed all at once. I was looking forward to this pretty much since he was born and now it has turned meal times into scream-fests.
I have long ago decided I would make all of his food (I am compensating for the huge disappointment that was breastfeeding). To that end, my husband gifted me with this cool contraption. It’s French and it’s fabulous. I will have to do another post about this machine some other time because it merits it’s own space.
But I digress. I plan on introducing avocado and sweet potatoes next. I am trying to stay optimistic about this and think that maybe he is not quite ready for these new tastes and textures. Maybe he just needs a little more time.
At any rate, this past month has brought the biggest challenges and biggest rewards. I am so in love with this little guy, I don’t even mind getting up at six am, how crazy is that?
