Humpty Dumpty, Happy Birthday, and The Puppy We Didn't Keep

I know a few of you have been waiting for some pictures of our very own and very first house. Well, wait no more! I finally put Humpty Dumpty back together (well, sort of) and took some pictures of the newly unpacked and somewhat clean house. This place is bigger than any other we have lived in as a married couple, so it’s a little bare for now. I am working on filling it up with some cozy furniture.
Meanwhile, today is my husband’s birthday, so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUSBAND! Last year I wasn’t in the States for his birthday, so it’s wonderful to actually be together for this one. My parents sent him some European vacuum packed coffee, so I am especially looking forward to sharing that.
On another, completely unrelated note—husband and I got to keep a Shar Pei pup named Cocoa for an extended visit through the Humane Society. She had to go back, but we kind of enjoyed having her around for a few days. I think now I know what they mean when they say Shar Pei’s are stubborn.
Basically this puppy was a cat in a dog’s body. She was one of the most independent dogs I have ever encountered. She wouldn’t answer when you called her; instead, she would round the corner, stop, look at you as if to say, “What do you want, human?” and then go back to her business. She would only cuddle and want attention in the morning for about five minutes. The rest of the day she was off on her own. Shar Pei’s are perpetual teenagers, brilliant and absolutely ornery.
We did teach her to sit and to shake, but she would only oblige when she felt like it, compliments of the breed, I suppose. She also dug up my basil and thoroughly enjoyed it, too. I found her with the basil pot around her muzzle, having a blast. She was a cute wrinkly pup but as stubborn as can be. Anyway, life’s been busy around here and I am enjoying every minute!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATHAN!!!!!!!!
Congrats on the home! Happy Birthday Nathan!
It isn’t just Shar Pei’s. Jemma, golden retriever, is also this way. She is highly intelligent but only does what she wants to do unless of course there is something in it for her. She is hugely independent and when she comes looking for love and attention you know she needs it. Dogs add a lot of life and love to your home though.
Love the pictures of the house…it is gorgeous! Congratulations to you both!
