News

I have some news to share with you, dear internet. I know I have been out of commission for a while and haven’t been updating as often as I should, but this time I have a really good excuse—morning sickness. It’s a vicious thing. And it’s really an all day thing for me.

So, as some of you may already know, husband and I are expecting our very first baby in January (it might actually be late December due to the AVM, but we really don’t know at this point). We are excited, nervous, stunned, surprised, joyous and everything in between.

I found out I was pregnant on May 15th in the most trivial and un-exciting of ways. For starters, I really didn’t think I was pregnant and I won’t go into detail here as to why I didn’t think that. I waited for several weeks to take the pregnancy test because that was really the last concern on my mind. I thought it was stress, hormonal imbalance, too much exercise or something, anything else.

I knew I needed to make an appointment with my doctor to find out what was wrong with me, but before I went I decided to go ahead and rule out pregnancy. And the rest is history, as they say. The news took a few days to sink in and I think I am still absorbing it.

Initially, I didn’t feel pregnant at all. I mean, I had no usual pesky pregnancy symptoms that come with the first trimester and I thought that I was one of those very rare women who sail through pregnancy, healthy and happy. But along came Week Six and twisted me up into a nauseated, vomiting knot. Even TV commercials that involve food make me queasy. Those breakfast tacos are the worst, even writing about it right now makes me want to run to the toilet.

The most difficult thing has been keeping liquids in my stomach. I am a huge water drinker. I love water and I usually drink quite a lot during the day. I haven’t really been able to drink any water for the past few weeks and I’m lucky if I can handle juice. And, just as a side note here, making a pregnant woman drink 32 ounces of water in 30 minutes and then telling her to hold it for over an hour has got to be the most cruel and unusual form of punishment. At least in my book.

I am at twelve weeks right now, so I am hoping things will begin to smooth out soon. We are going to find out baby’s gender in six weeks, which is entirely too exciting to think about. We have no preferences and will be very excited either way. I just want to get that name selection under way already. So, stay tuned for more updates on our pregnancy journey.

Congratulations! That is so exciting! I hope you have as easy of a pregnancy as I’ve had with this one (after the 1st trimester anyway). That sucks about the drinking water and then holding it, my doctors don’t make me do that.
