Ouch

Our mailman complained to me this weekend saying he was bit by “something” when he put mail into our mailbox. He wanted to make sure it “wasn’t nothing poisonous or nothing,” so I helped him search around the mailbox, but to no avail. We didn’t see anything suspicious, let alone poisonous.

I was worried we might have fire ants because that would mean lawn treatments, etc, etc, etc. I was really hoping it was something else, but couldn’t think of what it might be. Well, yesterday a huge, and I mean – HUGE – wasp flew out of the mailbox when I opened it. I kind of just stood there for a moment, in disbelief. And then I made a run for the house.

Later that night I sent out husband to take care of the pest and he managed to do a great job without getting stung. The wasp is dead and I hope there is no nest in there anywhere, but I am too chicken to check, so I’ll be sending husband back out tonight! Our poor mailman, I feel so bad for him.
