Remote Contol Personality
Last night I had an “aha” moment of sorts, while watching TV. Since husband was not feeling well, we vegged out in front of the tube, catching all our favorite shows. We are not yet blessed with a TiVo, so we suffer through commercials. Husband hates commercials with a passion. I am not a big fan either, but I try to maximize my time by changing channels once my favorite show is interrupted by a commercial. Yep. I am one of those people.
Even more than commercials themselves husband detests channel flipping. If he commits to watching a show with me, which is not often, his first order of business is to hide the remote from me, so we can watch one show and one show only, in peace. It’s a huge sacrifice on my part and usually half-way through the show I start looking for the remote, because I can’t stand it.
I have often wondered about this difference in our remote control preferences and last night it finally dawned on me. The way we use our remote control reflects our personalities. Nathan is patient, loyal, and very committed. If he starts on a project, he will finish it, no matter what. I, on the other hand, have often given up on projects half-way through. I get bored easily. I need a constant change of “scenery.” I am restless and I often end up with loads of unfinished business. Literally.
Now, I am not suggesting that this is true for everyone. However, I bet there is more depth to this remote control theory of personality development than meets the eye. It’d be interesting to do some research on it. I also have a theory about toes (“the foot fingers”, as they are lovingly called in my native Russian) as major descriptors of one’s personality, but that’s a whole another blog post.
