Thanksgiving on Steoroids

Literally and not. This Thanksgiving we had the tremendous pleasure of hosting Nathan’s family in our brand new baby house. I loved having them here for several reasons:

  1. The house came alive.
  2. My father-in-law did all the Thanksgiving cooking plus two other family dinners. Go dad!
  3. My mother-in-law baked up some amazingly awesome goodies.
  4. We got to watch at least half a dozen movies around a cozy fireplace (I think we put our 7-11 out of business for wood).
  5. Cougars won the Apple Cup. Big time. Intense. Also, props to our patient waitress Kristen who waited on us for 4.5 hours at BJ’s.

The not-so good side of this Thanksgiving? I got the biggest baddest sinus infection I have ever had in my whole entire life. The first one happened five years ago in Kentucky and also during the month of November. Hmmm. I am starting to think November and I are not getting along so well.

This was the second sinus infection I have ever experienced in my life and what an infection it was. Or, shall I say, is? Thankfully, I had enough foresight and wisdom to go ahead and go to the doctor right away. Initially she was extremely reluctant to prescribe any antibiotics but I managed to convince her that my headache was no ordinary migraine. (When she told me that it will take a week for my sinus infection to develop, I felt like saying, “I am pretty sure I am going to chop my head off by then because that will hurt much less.”)

A few prescription medications later (Vicodin, Zithromax, Mucinex, Sudafed, and Prednisone) I still feel like I am fighting this thing off. The awesome thing about it? I got to page a doctor twice during the Thanksgiving holiday and she even called me back three times to check on me. I’ve never had a doctor do that before.

The not so awesome thing about being on Vicodin while hosting six people at your house? Major grumpiness, out-of-it-ness, and throwing up your meal at the dinner table. In front of a whole team of in-laws. Yup. I think this takes the prize for most embarrassing moment ever. Happy Holidays!
